YAT finalists announced

Connor Diemand-Yauman ’10, Josh Grehan ’10 and Aditya Panda ’10 are finalists in the Young Alumni Trustee (YAT) primary election, the Alumni Association announced on Tuesday afternoon. The three candidates will move on to the general election.

Members of the Class of 2010 narrowed down the 24 candidates for YAT to three after the first round of voting, which ended on Friday after being extended due to a technical error that prevented several members of the Class of 2010 from accessing the YAT voting website.

Though the YAT election’s anti-campaigning rules state that candidates may not “endeavor to campaign on or discuss specific issues, rally mass media or rally support,” they are free to speak to the press within these guidelines, University spokeswoman Cass Cliatt ’96 said in an e-mail. In past years, finalists have spoken to The Daily Princetonian following the release of their names.

However, in a joint e-mail to the 'Prince' on Monday night, Diemand-Yauman, Grehan and Panda declined to comment in order to preserve the spirit of the campaign.

Cliatt said that this year’s voting numbers are within the “typical range” of senior participation, noting that 585 seniors participated.

Last year, 671 seniors voted, the highest level of participation since 2005.

Members of the classes of 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 will be eligible to vote in the general election, which will run from April 22 until May 20.

The winning candidate, who will be announced in May, will join the 40-member Board of Trustees for a four-year term that will begin on July 1. YATs attend five general meetings per year in addition to any committee meetings, and they participate as full voting members of the board.

The current YATs are Elizabeth Dilday ’09, Meaghan Petersack ’08, Jim Williamson ’07 and Brady Walkinshaw ’06. Walkinshaw will step down to make way for this year’s winner.
