Teenagers arrested for thefts

Kyle Parsons of Princeton and Russell Floyd of Lawrenceville, both 18, were arrested on Feb. 25 and charged with burglary, theft and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, according to a police statement.

In addition, two 16-year-olds — a male and female from Princeton — were charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

At 2:40 a.m. on Feb. 24, Parsons, Floyd and the male juvenile allegedly entered TI “surreptitiously” through an unlocked front door and stole a laptop, an iPod and a coat, Sutter said. According to the statement, the items had a total value of $2,400.

Using video surveillance footage, police were able to identify the three suspects and obtain probable cause for  arrest warrants, Sutter said. He declined to identify where the footage was from, saying only that it was a “piece of evidence critical to the investigation.”

“We actually have nothing further to add beyond the police report,” TI president Michael Portillo ’11 said in an e-mail.

TI graduate board chair Robert “Hap” Cooper ’82 declined to comment on Tuesday.

Police arrested Parsons at a residence on Hawthorne Avenue. At the house, they also arrested the female juvenile, who allegedly stole a laptop from Terrace on Feb. 24 and two iPods from Frist.

Terrace president Andrew Chong ’11 said he believes that the juvenile entered the club through its open front door at a time when members were expected to be entering and exiting, though he added that “we don’t know for sure.” Chong is a former news writer for The Daily Princetonian.

“Honestly, kids are hooligans these days. Luckily, they were caught,” he said.

The male juvenile, who allegedly participated in the TI burglary, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after he was arrested at his residence.

The two juveniles were released to their guardians.

Parsons and Floyd, who are not currently enrolled in school, both posted bail, according to the police statement. They will appear in court next week to face the charges, which are all indictable offenses in New Jersey.

It is unclear whether any of the suspects have a prior criminal record. Sutter said that state law “prohibited [him] from discussing criminal histories.”

He said he believed the laptops and iPods were all returned to their owners.
