On Friday, what began as a campus dance party evolved into a riot of more than 200 people who broke dumpsters and windows on campus. Five students were also arrested on Monday during the annual UC Student Association lobbying day in San Francisco.
A number of riots have erupted on the campuses of California universities since the state raised fees for its public universities by 32 percent last November. Students plan to hold further large-scale protests on Thursday, which has been designated as Campus Action Day.

Students have also recently protested perceived racial discrimination within the UC system. About 200 people held a silent demonstration at Berkeley on Monday to draw attention to racial tensions at Berkeley and other UC schools.
