Wilson school visiting professor Joshua Bolten ’76, the former White House Chief of Staff, and former Senate majority leader Bill Frist ’74 have been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which was established by former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush to coordinate fundraising efforts for Haiti following the Jan. 12 earthquake there.
More than 200,000 individuals have contributed more than $36 million to the relief fund to support both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts in Haiti.
The six-person, bipartisan board, which Bolten will co-chair, will allocate funding from donations to reputable nonprofit and nongovernmental relief organizations. Board members will not receive salaries and will serve three-year terms.
“I am pleased that such a distinguished group of individuals has agreed to serve,” Bush said. “This group will ensure that our fundraising efforts remain strong, and that the money is spent on successful programs that build a better future for the Haitian people.”
Bolten joined the Wilson School faculty as a visiting professor last September, after serving as Bush’s Chief of Staff from April 2006 to January 2009.
Frist, who was a Wilson School visiting professor for the 2007-08 academic year, was elected to the Senate as a Republican in 1994 and became majority leader in 2002, a post he held until he retired from the Senate in January 2007.
