Penalty points are assigned by the elections managers, Peter Dunbar ’10, Aditya Panda ’10 and Alex Rosen ’11, for a variety of campaign rule infractions.
A candidate who receives 10 points, like Downey, loses the right to display campaign materials online on all websites, Facebook groups and events. Candidates receiving 20 points may not send campaign e-mails, and candidates who get 30 points have the disclaimer “This candidate has repeatedly violated campaign regulations” appended to their candidate statement on the elections website. Candidates who receive 50 penalty points are disqualified from the election.
Campaigning will take place this week and voting will last from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9. Results will be announced Dec. 11. Any necessary runoffs will take place the following week.
