Man arrested for lewdness

A man was arrested by Borough Police late Saturday evening for exposing himself to a female visitor on campus, the Department of Public Safety announced in a campus-wide safety alert early Sunday morning.

The female was walking on Elm Drive between West College and Clio Hall just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening when she was stopped by a man asking for directions, the alert said, adding that "while the female gave directions she noticed the male was exposing himself."

The woman called police and described the individual as a Hispanic man in his 20s wearing blue jeans and a white button-down shirt. Public Safety officers began a search of the area and saw someone fitting the victim's description of the perpetrator on William Street. The individual was detained, identified by the victim and arrested by Borough Police.

A string of incidents

This was the fourth incident of lewdness on campus since mid-spring. On April 18, two female students, each of whom was alone at the time, reported encountering a man who was masturbating and who exposed his genitals to them. Both students identified a Hispanic male suspect.

The first instance of lewdness occurred while the student was walking toward the U-Store on McCosh Walk. The female student saw the man on the steps between Buyers and Witherspoon halls, and she also reported seeing the suspect earlier in the night near the architecture school and 1879 Hall. She said the suspect was walking behind her and masturbating.

The second incident occurred near the first entry of 1879. The suspect exposed his genitals to the victim before running away toward Washington Road and Nassau Street.

The suspect in the second incident did not come into physical contact with either victim.

On May 18, another female student reported she observed a male masturbating between Nassau Hall and East Pyne around 12:30 a.m. That victim, who said the suspect stopped her to ask for directions but did not come into contact with her, described the individual as a dark-skinned male in his mid-20s.

A series of arrests

In April, Borough Police also arrested two men in connection with separate alleged incidents of criminal sexual contact on campus.

Police officers arrested an unidentified man in relation to an incident that took place at around 3:20 a.m. on April 19 on Alexander Beach. A female student reported that she was grabbed by a man who "reached under her clothes to touch her," according to a campus-wide safety alert.

In the second case, Muhammad Kader was apprehended in connection with an incident that took place just before 10 p.m. in Alexander Hall, according to a statement released by Borough Police. A female University employee called Public Safety to report that Kader had tried to kiss her and then touch her, according to the Public Safety crime log.
