Pugliese elected in runoff for 2012 VP

Pugliese said he felt “honored” to have been given the chance to serve his class.

“I’m very excited to be a part of class government,” he said, adding that he thinks his popular Zoolander posters may have contributed to his success. “I’m looking forward to working with other class officers and all members of the class to have better events.”

Though Pugliese received 15 fewer votes than Monagle in last week’s election, he dominated in the runoff vote, garnering 122 more votes than his opponent. Pugliese also credited his victory to his extended efforts, including going door-to-door to meet members of his class — something he didn’t do before the first vote.

“I made an effort to talk to more people face-to-face, so I would say that helped,” Pugliese said, adding that he also reached out to more people on facebook.com this time around.

Monagle explained he had confidence in Pugliese’s abilities and wished him the best. Monagle added, “It was a really good experience [to run], and I got to meet a lot people.”

“I’m excited for Nick,” Monagle said. “I’m sure he’s going to do a great job.”

There were initially five candidates for Class of 2012 vice president: Pugliese, Monagle, Eri Andriola, Katlin Poladian and Rodrigo Munoz Rogers. The race was the most heavily contested of the spring election cycle.

In an interview with The Daily Princetonian last month, Pugliese characterized himself as “more of a type-B personality than a type-A” and said that, if elected, he would like to hold fewer but larger class-wide events like barbecues.

Pugliese’s campaign featured posters with pickup lines, including, “You must be from Tenessee because you’re the only 10 I see.”
