No ’10 to chair U-Council

No said he was excited to work with the rest of the USG Executive Committee in the fall.

“I think the USG has made a lot of great strides this past semester, and I hope the U-Councilors will continue to be an effective voice for the student body,” he said in an e-mail. “The U-Council has a unique role in the school because members serve on both student and administrative committees.”

The USG Senate selects two of the newly elected U-Councilors to serve on the USG Executive Committee, and the USG president then designates one of them to chair the U-Council.

Kaplan said she is looking forward to leading the U-Council in the upcoming year.

“In my new role, I plan to focus on ensuring that the CPUC discusses issues affecting the undergraduate student body so that top University administrators continue to hear our thoughts and concerns,” Kaplan said in an e-mail.

Diemand-Yauman said he was pleased with the Senate’s selection.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with their performance this semester in their respective working groups. It’s been a pleasure working with both of them, and I know they’re going to do an excellent job in their new positions.”

This year, only 10 students ran for the 10 positions on the U-Council.

Incumbents Kaplan, No, Harry Schiff ’10 and John Allen Zumpetta ’11 all won re-election to the U-Council, and they are joined by newcomers Carter Greenbaum ’12, Tiernan Kane ’11, Steven Lindsay ’12, JB Marek ’11, Alex Pretko ’12 and Kelly Roache ’12.

“I hope we’ll be able to take advantage of our proximity to both administrators and our peers to help garner support for our various initiatives,” No said. “For instance, the Senate has already made a lot of progress on issues like campus sustainability, and I hope we’ll see our ideas come to fruition next year.”
