Borough Police confirmed Friday afternoon that Jorge Humberto Solares Garcia has been charged with criminal sexual contact only in connection with the April 19 incident on Alexander Beach. He has not been charged in connection with the two reports of lewdness made April 18 by female students.
While The Princeton Packet reported late Thursday evening that Borough Police had charged one man with all three sex crimes against students last weekend, this information is incorrect.
Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Casey DeBlasio also confirmed Friday afternoon that Garcia had been charged in connection with only one of the on-campus incidents.
The three incidents
The first instance of lewdness occurred on the morning of April 18 while a female student was walking toward the U-Store on McCosh Walk. The student reported that she saw the suspect on the steps between Buyers and Witherspoon halls and that she had seen him earlier in the night near the architecture school and 1879 Hall. She said the suspect was walking behind her and masturbating.
The second incident also occurred that morning, near the first entryway of 1879. The suspect exposed his genitals to the victim before running away toward Washington Road and Nassau Street. The suspect in the second incident did not come into physical contact with the victim.
On April 19, a third female student reported that she was grabbed by a man who “reached under her clothes to touch her,” according to a campus-wide safety alert. The suspect approached the female student on Alexander Beach and attempted to speak with her, then grabbed her and restrained her to prevent her from getting away. A passing female student intervened, and the suspect released the victim.
