Rouse joins Council of Economic Advisors

Rouse will sit on the three-person council with University of Chicago professor Austan Goolsbee and UC Berkeley professor and former Princeton professor Christina Romer, who will serve as chair. The council was established through the Employment Act of 1946 to advise the president on a variety of domestic and international economic issues.

“We expect her experience to have a positive effect on her teaching and research when she returns from this government service,” Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin said in a statement Wednesday.

Rouse has been an economics professor at the University since 1992. She currently also serves as the director of the University’s Industrial Relations Section, which supports research efforts and seminars on campus. In 2002, Rouse began the Education Research Section, a unit within the Industrial Relations Section that encourages consulting research for decisions regarding education policy.

Rouse has done extensive work relating to economics and education. She also serves as a senior editor of The Future of Children, a journal published by the Wilson School and the Brookings Institution.

Rouse joins the long list of University faculty who have served on the council. Professors Burton Malkiel GS ’64, Alan Blinder ’67 and Harvey Rosen have all held positions on the council. Rosen has also chaired the council.
