Five SINSI scholars announced

Rashad Badr, Carolyn Edelstein, Andrew Kim, Simona Li and William Wagner will serve in federal government internships this summer. After graduation, they will become Charles and Marie Robertson Government Service Scholars and complete their first year of MPA study before working for two years in federal government positions. Finally, they will return to Princeton to complete the MPA program.

Though Kim said that he had been previously unsure about whether he would pursue a career in government, he noted that he viewed winning the scholarship as an affirmation of that path.

“I figured that this was a unique opportunity that I wouldn’t be able to get after this stage of life,” he said. “I figured I’d take it.”

Kim added that the recipients had been notified in mid-December. The other winners are all studying abroad this semester and could not be reached for comment.

The SINSI fellowship structure for the Class of 2010 winners will be different than it has been in the past. All five of the scholars in the Class of 2008 are working for two years in government before returning to the University for graduate school, while the six scholars in the Class of 2009 have the option of completing the first year of MPA study before or after their two years of government work.

Li is a chemistry concentrator. The other winners are Wilson School concentrators.
