Dean of the Wilson School Anne-Marie Slaughter '80 confirmed in an e-mail to Wilson School students Tuesday evening that she will be leaving the Wilson School to serve under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The move had been widely rumored for the days leading up to this announcement, though Slaughter had declined to confirm the appointment.
In her e-mail, Slaughter thanked students, faculty and staff, and said that associate dean Nolan McCarty and professor Mark Watson will be acting deans.
Slaughter said that though she is leaving her post, she will "remain a member of the faculty. Indeed, when Senator Clinton offered me a position, I told her that I could only take a limited public service leave and that I would be commuting back and forth to Princeton on weekends."
Slaughter said Clinton agreed.
"[Clinton] commented that it would be valuable for me to get out of Washington regularly, to be able to hear a wider range of opinions," Slaugher said. "The one thing that everyone in the Woodrow Wilson School has in abundance is opinions!"
