Hillary Clinton

Take universal healthcare. As we all know, Clinton has a great deal of experience with the issue. Yes, she may have failed on the first go-round, but we all learn and grow from our mistakes. If Clinton is elected, I believe she will be able to radically change and improve the American healthcare system using her in-depth knowledge of the issue. Her experience could help bring about change, not only with regard to healthcare, but also in other domains, such as America's reputation in the world.

I also don't think that having an "insider" as president is a detriment to our nation's progress and revitalization. Let's be honest: Washington is a twisted web of red tape, legislative intricacies and myriad special interests. Someone who has been in that environment for a long time is more likely to know how to efficiently and effectively get things done. As trite as it may be, Sen. Clinton, Democrat of New York, makes a good point in saying that she will be "ready on day one" to handle the rigors of the presidency.

Most importantly, after having met and listened to Clinton up close and in person during the week before the New Hampshire primary, I certainly think she's more than "likeable enough," as her main rival, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), once said. I worked for Clinton's field operation and attended several campaign rallies on a trip with the Pace Center. The rallies proved to be the highlight of the snowy and exhausting week. Fellow Princeton volunteers can attest that there is a big difference between TV Hillary and Live Hillary. TV Hillary can come across, quite frankly, as shrill and harsh. Live Hillary, on the other hand, is a tiny woman with a lot of charisma who seems friendly, brilliant and most of all, deeply passionate about her desire to better our country. I truly believe that if all voters could meet Clinton, their deep-seated suspicions about her authenticity would instantly disappear.

It's important to note that my admiration and strong support of Hillary is not a repudiation of or disdain for Obama. I think he's a smart, genuine and all-around awesome person. I just think that Hillary is the better of the two on both policy knowledge and the ability to bring about positive change.

One last thing: a quick shout out to all my female classmates. You should recognize how historic and exciting it is that a woman has a true shot at the presidency and take that into account as you make your decisions. This isn't about voting on gender lines; it's about recognizing the opportunity we have to break the final glass ceiling. That said, gooooo Hillary!
