THE NOMINEES
Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There
Ruby Dee, American Gangster
Saoirse Ronan, Atonement
Amy Ryan, Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton, Michael Clayton
WHO SHOULD WIN
Fareed Ben-Youssef: Tilda Swinton
Swinton is a creepy force on the screen, but in an imperfect film, she delivers far and away the best performance. Her performance uses her own awkward nature in the best way possible.
Adam Tanaka: Saoirse Ronan
I think hers is the strongest performance of the film. There's a scene where James McAvoy is being arrested, and she looks at him through a window. The expression in her eyes is terrifying, but the strength of the performance is that you identify with her.
Jun Koh: Cate Blanchett

Ronan is a revelation, but Blanchett totally immerses herself in this male role. Her features and gestures are eerily similar to Bob Dylan's. Every time she comes onscreen, she steals the spotlight.
Russell O'Rourke: Cate Blanchett
I think Blanchett is the only actor in "I'm Not There" who seems genuinely interested in exploring Bob Dylan as a person and not as a character. No one else seems to be getting beyond the script besides her.
WHO WILL WIN: Cate Blanchett
Blanchett's ability to steal the scene and yet not draw attention to her feminity merits the gold statue. -JK
