Ask the Sexpert

Dear Sexpert,

I've heard that some foods can make a man's ejaculate and a woman's vaginal lubricant taste better or worse. Is this true? And what foods have what effects?

— Taste Sensitive

Dear Taste Sensitive,

While TV shows usually aren't reliable sources for Sexpert facts, "Sex and the City" actually got this one right. Food not only affects a person's health and hormones, it can also affect the taste of bodily secretions such as ejaculate and vaginal lubricant. Red meat can make those substances taste more bitter and/or salty, while fruits — especially citrus fruits such as mango and pineapple — can make sexual fluids taste much sweeter. So, as you indulge in sweets over the holidays, don't think of them as bad for your waistline, but rather as good for your sex life!

Dear Sexpert,

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about a month now and we are sexually active, but he never ejaculates when we have sex. I've tried oral sex, vaginal sex and different forms of foreplay, and I just can't figure out what to do to make him orgasm. Do you have any suggestions?

— Orgasm-less

Dear Orgasm-less,

First off, have you talked to your boyfriend about this issue? Some men have enough control over their ejaculation that they can prevent it at will. A man might control himself if he doesn't want to ejaculate into his partner's mouth during oral sex, though he could in theory restrain himself during any sexual encounter. If this is the case, then it might be a matter of talking to your partner, telling him what you want and asking him what his feelings are on the subject.

When you bring it up, you also might want to ask if your partner has encountered this issue before. If he has, then ask him what he did — what worked to make him ejaculate? If he has never ejaculated, or if this has been a chronic issue, then consider asking him to go talk to a doctor. While erectile dysfunction usually only affects older men, it is possible that your boyfriend has a medical condition. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and, if something can be done to help, then soon you two will be having wonderful, healthy, orgasm-full sex.
