Remember the movie "The Truman Show," in which the life of the main character, Truman Burbank, serves as television entertainment for the outside world? That's kind of what it's like to live in apartment 12 in the first building of Spelman Hall. There is hardly a student at Princeton who, walking to Forbes, hasn't looked through the huge, glass windows that cover nearly two full sides of the common room. Some might be uncomfortable with the prospect of living so exposed, but residents Alex Okafor '09, Pythias Temesgen '09, Erber Hernandez '09 and Daniel Watford '09 enjoy the attention.
At the moment, the view inside the window is a bit cluttered – the common room has been primarily used as storage space thus far; a TV, a small table and chairs are currently the only decoration. Last year, the group owned two nice futons, but they were lost this summer in a housing mix-up. Besides replacing the futons, the roommates are considering painting the walls, perhaps entirely purple and black, or with each wall in a different style to represent each of the four roommates.
Whatever they decide, they plan to decorate their prominent space so as to interest outside passersby as well as for their own enjoyment. Finally, Watford admits he is glad all four roommates are social, as privacy will be impossible when they host a party.
