Sugar thong, honey bra, you know that I'll buy you

Where would you go in Princeton, N.J., if you wanted to wear your underwear and eat it too?

Your best bet is Ricky's Candy, Cones and Chaos on Nassau Street. The store offers two shelves of sensual confections.

Such products are generally for couples to enjoy, so you might also want body frosting, and, if conversation isn't your thing, a board game as well. How about Chocolate Strip Checkers: "As your game pieces come off, so do your clothes"?

Ricky's may seem an unlikely merchant for such wares. The store's lime green walls, upbeat candy-themed music and cartoon dragon mascot appear to be designed to excite somewhat younger sensibilities than those bikini tops and male "posing pouches" crafted from candy necklace beads might suggest.

The adult candy products at Ricky's sit quietly in awkward coexistence with their juvenile brethren at adult eye level or above, right next to the cash register. A tame tin of chocolate-covered pretzels sits next to risque chocolate body paint.

Julissa Guzman, who has worked at the store for three years, said she had never heard complaints from parents. "Not a lot of kids make it over here," Guzman said, standing next to the adult shelf. She said the children are usually distracted by the colorful candy and toys at the front of the store.

The adult items are relatively new to the three-year-old store. The edible underwear arrived last November, and the board games appeared for Valentine's Day. Most buyers are college students or 20-somethings, who buy the gifts as gags or for bachelor parties.

There are, of course, exceptions. "Once in a while, you'll get an older couple that'll come in and say, 'This looks really fun,' " saleswoman Melissa Loupos said. "They'll try to hide it from the kids too and keep it behind the register."

Sam Clendon '07 said he first noticed the section — then mostly filled with edible undergarments — in November while walking through the store. A bra fell off the shelf, and Clendon thought it would be perfect for a friend. He didn't end up buying it but said it was good for a laugh.

"We got a hilarious kick out of [the section], because it's a candy store for kids," he said. Clendon added that, though hilarious, the section's location made him a little squeamish in retrospect.

"I'm very laissez-faire about this, so at the time I wasn't taken aback," he added. "But looking back, it would have probably be better if Ricky's had at least kept [the adult products] away from the general area of the store."

Ultimately, though, the comedic value outweighed the risk of kids getting an eyeful of naughty treats.

"If the kids haven't complained, I don't think there's a problem," he said. "I wonder how many parents know [the underwear items] are in there, but hell — great Halloween costume."
