How to dress in drag

It's important to understand what being a drag queen really means. A true drag queen becomes, if you will, one with his thong. He becomes enamored with this role he has chosen to play, and he acts as if he truly were blessed ... with a set of ovaries. The best drag queens are usually great performers who have no inhibitions when getting on stage in a pair of heels. Some people may expect that someone who defies social norms in such a way must have little or no shame. Other people may believe that anyone who dresses in drag is either gay or wants to become a woman — permanently. This just simply isn't true. While there are a lot of gay and transsexual drag queens, there are some (like me) who are not gay or transsexual, but have competed in drag competitions at Princeton for what they are all ultimately about: sheer entertainment. If I can get 550 people to stand on their feet and scream at the top of their lungs at the 2005 All-Ivy League Drag Ball while I gave four of Princeton's top administrators a table dance, then I don't mind strapping on four-inch platform heels and calling myself Honey Loquacious! In order to be a drag queen, you can't worry about other people's opinions ... even if they attempt to formulate a well-thought out, socially conservative argument for why dressing in drag is morally unjust. Bottom line: If you love to perform, then the crowd will love you.
