Terrace, Tower bridge sign-in, Bicker club gap

This evening, Tower and Terrace eating clubs will buck tradition by bringing together a Bicker and a sign-in club for a joint event. Members of the two clubs will eat dinner together at Tower and then proceed to Terrace for live performances by rock bands Lake Trout, Benzos and Shelby.

Past joint events were "usually hosted by two Bicker clubs or two sign-in clubs," Terrace social chair Ben Markowitz '07 said.

After the Interclub Council decided last spring that eating clubs should cosponsor a greater number of events, Markowitz began brainstorming for ideas.

Markowitz said he was talking to a New York-based promoter about bringing together three bands in one evening when he thought of getting another eating club to cosponsor the event. Markowitz brought up the idea at a meeting with social chairs from the nine other clubs, but only Tower social chair Meg Ryan '07 expressed interest in partnering.

Because of the proximity of Tower and Terrace, the collaboration works well, Markowitz said, adding that "there are already a lot of social connections between the members of the two clubs."

To prepare for the event, Tower and Terrace have held joint officer meetings, and they shared the responsibilities of publicizing and planning the event. The two clubs will host the event in conjunction with WOXY, an online radio station which is going to record the concert and make the recordings available through their website, woxy.com.

"The collaboration has been great," Markowitz said. "If it's successful, I could definitely see more events like this in the future."

Markowitz hopes tonight will dispel what he calls "foolish preconceptions" about the differences between members of sign-in and Bicker clubs.
