For seniors, June 6 — or 6/6/06 — holds special significance, marking the formal end to their college careers and their graduation as Princeton-educated men and women. But the date also holds significance in a slightly less joyful way: as the apocalyptic number of the beast or Antichrist in the Book of Revelation.
While Internet sites abound with gruesome predictions for the day — some worry that it could be marked by violence, as terrorist groups have previously attacked on dates of symbolic significance — most seniors do not think the Commencement coincidence bodes poorly for life outside FitzRandolph Gate.
"I don't really believe in omens like that, so it does not have much significance to me," Anna Megill '06 said. Hart Ku '06 also denied the importance of the date, saying he doesn't care because he is neither religious nor superstitious.
Seniors Michael Kenneally and Paul Thompson both said that the combination was pure coincidence.
"I think graduation is just always held that Tuesday," Kenneally said.
Posters and advertisements for the horror movie, "The Omen," however, have spurred some anxiety among students. The movie, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name, is set to release on June 6.
"I was driving home on Route 1, between Trenton and here, and I saw a big billboard sign that said 6/6/06. And I was thinking, is this a sign?" Libby Engelmeier '06 said.
To get a quasi-professional perspective on the matter, The Daily Princetonian invited Tiffani White '06 to have a psychic reading performed by Samantha, the Princeton Village Psychic. Her predictions might make more seniors think twice about the date.
While reading White's cards earlier this week, Samantha first said that all seniors graduating June 6 would have nightmares the night before. As the reading continued, her predictions became increasingly unpleasant.
"A lot of people will get arrested two nights before for drunken driving or for having pot," she said. "They will all have a record, including your closest friend."
White was not too fazed by the psychic's predictions, however, joking afterwards that she will inform the 'Prince' if any of her friends are arrested.
Even the seniors who showed a little apprehension about the date said they felt it would have no real bearing on their futures, a prediction that the psychic reading affirmed. White's cards showed that she would eventually find the perfect job and marry by the age of 27.

Seniors said most of their worries about 6/6/06 are just about getting through the ceremony and leaving Princeton, and any anxiety about the date itself is just for fun.
"I think it's cool just to tell people that we're graduating that day," Engelmeier said. "When people ask when I'm graduating, I just type 666."
