University administrators and professors honored late emeritus anthropology professor David Wendell Crabb and approved committee election results yesterday during a faculty meeting.
Professor James Boon, anthropology department chair, read a memorial resolution about Crabb, who died last year. Calling him "America's professor of anthropology," Boon spoke about the pivotal role Crabb held in developing the University's anthropology department after he joined the faculty in 1963.
Crabb, whose "musical and vocal gifts were matched by linguistic aptitude," was praised for having "provocatively portrayed such ideas to Princeton undergraduates," Boon said. He spent 17 years at the University before retiring in 1980. Faculty members stood in support of the resolution and observed a moment of silence in honor of Crabb.
Faculty also unanimously approved the results of committee elections. Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin reported that 38.2 percent of those eligible to vote had done so, adding that it was a "high percentage historically."
The meeting lasted 13 minutes, with approximately 30 faculty members in attendance.
