Cottage Club president Will Griffeth '07 resigned his post Tuesday, saying he could no longer perform his club duties.
Griffeth, who had assumed the post just three weeks ago, said in an e-mail message last night that "I am not taking place in the discussions to determine the future leadership of the club, but I have utmost confidence that it will be capably and responsibly led in 2006."
Gavin Fabian '07, who previously served as Cottage vice president, was named the club's president Wednesday evening.
"He was the man for the job and he would have done a great job," Fabian said of Griffeth in an interview last night.
Griffeth resigned as president because of disciplinary action stemming from an incident that occurred during Cottage's pickups on Feb. 10, according to an e-mail he sent to Cottage members.
In the message, he told members he was "a little short on words right now" and that he was "sorry for putting the club in this situation."
"On Tuesday I received a suspension from the University for my role in a disciplinary incident that occurred last month, the details of which I am not at liberty to discuss," Griffeth said in his e-mail to The Daily Princetonian. "I subsequently offered my resignation as Club president."
Some Cottage members were saddened by Griffeth's departure.
"I personally think that it's a shame," Cottage member Christina Costantino '07 said. "I think that Will's a great guy and I can't think of anyone better to represent Cottage. I think he will be missed not only within my class but for what he will do for Cottage next year."
Another Cottage member, David Rosner '06, agreed.
"I think a lot of people are upset about it," Rosner said. "I don't have much to say because I didn't see the event, but he's a really good friend of mine and I will miss him."
Associate Dean of Undergraduate Students Hilary Herbold declined to comment, citing confidentiality policies regarding disciplinary affairs.

"He definitely broke some rules but everyone has moments when they have bad judgment," Fabian said, adding that though he will miss Griffeth, he's looking forward to his new role.
"I'm excited about it, I'm energized and I'm definitely ready for the responsibility," Fabian said.
The last time an eating club president resigned before completing a full term was in 2003, when Tower Club president Cullen Newton '04 stepped down from his post after police charged him with serving alcohol to minors.
The charges were later dropped because of a lack of evidence.
