A post-midterm, end-of-the-semester concert guide

The end of fall semester may be one of the hardest times of the school year. Term papers are crammed on top of each other, and the Jersey weather goes from cold to colder. If the approaching holiday vacations can't quite raise your spirits, one of the many concerts coming soon to the tristate area may be just the thing. Here's our end-of-the-semester guide to performances in the greater New York City and Philadelphia areas.

November

If you can't get tickets to the Guster concert at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square next weekend, there is still a chance for you to see them perform on Nov. 14 at the Stabler Arena in Allentown, Penn. They go onstage at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $25.

One week from now, on Nov. 16 and 17, Bruce Springsteen will be performing at the Continental Airlines Arena at Meadowlands in East Rutherford at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $57. Fortunately, it's really easy to get to Meadowlands from Princeton: just take the NJ Turnpike North until Exit 16W and follow signs to the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

311 will perform with Exit at the Hammerstein Ballroom in on West 34 Street in downtown Manhattan at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16. The following night (Nov. 17), 311 will go onstage with Alien Ant Farm, also starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for each night cost $37, with the option of donating $1 more toward Hurricane Katrina Relief.

Also on Nov. 16, Latin sensation Juan Gabriel will be performing at Madison Square Garden Theater at 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $69.50.

Punk rock band Pennywise will go onstage in a week on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theater. Tickets cost a mere $14.99, but there is only standing room.

You will have three chances to see Ashlee Simpson this month. She will first go onstage at 8 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Reading Eagle Theater at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Penn. The following night, Nov. 17, Ashlee will perform at the Scranton Cultural Center. Lastly, on the Monday after Thanksgiving she will hit the stage at 7:30 p.m. at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, off Route 9. Tickets are on sale for $39.50, $35.50 and $38.50.

If you have a car, you can see R&B artist India.arie perform at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $39. However, if you prefer public transportation, India.arie will also be going onstage at the famous Apollo Theater in New York City the following evening, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Apollo performance cost $45.

Reggae artist Buju Banton will be performing at the popular Electric Factory in Philadelphia on Nov. 17 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $23.50.

Alanis Morissette will play at the Roseland Ballroom on 52nd Street and Broadway on Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $23.

Collective Soul will perform with special guest Better than Ezra at the Starland Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $28 in advance, $30 at the door. If you can't make that show, Better than Ezra will also hit the stage at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, Penn., the following night, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. Only four miles off exit 74 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, this concert is a definite steal for fans with ticket prices at only $15.

The Roots and Guster come together on Nov. 20 for an ultimate concert performance at Villanova University. The concert starts at 7 p.m., with tickets on sale for $25.

Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz will also provide fans with a unique concert opportunity. The evening before Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, they will go onstage at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $35 to $125. If you can't get tickets, you will have a second chance to see them perform next month on Dec. 2 at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. Tickets, however, are much pricier at this venue: $225 for standing room at $240 for seats.

Bad Religion and Pennywise will join forces on Nov. 20 at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $25.

O.A.R. will be performing three times this month. Your first chance to see them will be at the Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. The following night at 7:30, they will hit the stage at the Starland Ballroom. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, O.A.R. will perform at the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront in Camden at 8 p.m. Ticket prices for the 3 shows are $30, $28 and $32, respectively.

For those U2 fans out there, don't miss out on their concert at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $54 to $169.50.

G. Love & Special Sauce will hit the stage with Blackalicious the night before Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, at the Hammerstein Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. If you can't make that night's showing, G. Love & Special Sauce will also perform on Nov. 25 at 9 p.m. at the Electric Factory. Tickets for both nights are on sale for $25.

Rock star Bon Jovi will perform at Madison Square Garden at the end of this month on Nov. 28 and 29. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. with ticket prices starting at $49.50.

December

If you cannot get tickets to Bon Jovi's performance in the city, don't fret. You have six chances next month to see him play. On December 2 and 3, Bon Jovi will go onstage at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Then the band will play at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island on Dec. 7. Your last three chances to see Bon Jovi live in concert will be Dec. 19, 21 and 22 at the Continental Airlines Arena. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale starting at $47.50, $46.50 and $65 for the respective venues.

Reggae artist Damian Marley will rock the stage at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square on Dec. 3 at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $26 and the doors open at 7 p.m.

Also on Dec. 3, the Barenaked Ladies will play at the Commerce Bank Arts Centre in Sewell at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $44 to $54.

Another major concert comes to our area next month, when you will have five chances to see the Dave Matthews Band live. They will first perform at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Penn., at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6. The following weekend, Dec. 9 and 10, DMB will be hitting the stage at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. If those concerts get sold out, the band will also bring their jamband flavor to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on the last Tuesday of classes, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are roughly $50 at each venue.

For all the country music fans, Brad Paisely, Sara Evans and Sugarland will be performing at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square the evening of Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $39.50 with doors opening at 5:30.

If you love music from the '80s, be sure to check out Depeche Mode next month at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 7 and 8.The concert starts at 8 p.m. and ticket prices begin at $40.

Fiona Apple will go onstage at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, Penn., on Dec. 8 and 9. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $37.50 to 47.50.

Staind will be holding a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina on Dec. 14 at the Starland Ballroom, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $22.50. If you cannot get tickets to that show, they will also be performing at the Scranton Cultural Center on Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Lastly, they will go onstage with P.O.D., Taproot and Flyleaf at the Roseland Ballroom on Dec. 16. This concert starts at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for both nights cost $31.50 and $36, respectively.

Dance hall artist Sean Paul will rock the stage at the House of Blues in Atlantic City on Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $29.50. Just take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 38, which leads to AC Expressway East going into Atlantic City. Afterwards, follow signs to Showboat Casino.

Also on Dec. 15, Grammy-winner Gwen Stefani will go onstage at Madison Square at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range between $49.50 and $75.

Z100's annual Jingle Ball will be selling out Madison Square Garden the following evening, Dec. 16. Artists include Kanye West, Shakira, Sean Paul, Ludacris, Backstreet Boys, Fall Out Boy, Frankie J and The Click Five, among others. The concert starts at 7:30 and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale starting at $25.

Also on Dec. 16, LL Cool J will be rocking the mic at the House of Blues in Atlantic City at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $42 to $52.

Male guitarist Gavin Degraw will ring in 2006 at the Electric Factory on New Years Eve at 8:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m., with prices starting at $59.50.

January

If you need a break from the stress of finals, the Rolling Stones are coming to Madison Square Garden on Jan. 18 and 20. Both performances start at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $64.50 to a killing $454.50.
