Whig-Clio hosts Borough Council debate

The American Whig-Cliosophic Society will host a debate among the three candidates running for the Princeton Borough Council tonight at 9 p.m. in Whig Hall.

The three candidates — Democratic incumbents David Goldfarb and Mildred Trotman and independent challenger Josh Leinsdorf — have all been invited to participate. Truman may not come, however, due to a death in his family, said Whig-Clio Senate Co-President Shriram Harid '08.

The debate is open to all students and members of the community, who will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.

Whig-Clio is hosting the event to offer the candidates an opportunity to "focus on issues relevant to Princeton students," Harid said, and to "get people informed about the various candidates."

The idea for the debate arose when Leinsdorf contacted Whig-Clio about speaking to Princeton students. The Senate, Whig-Clio's forum for debate and discussion, decided to invite the other two candidates to make the event a debate.

The candidates will each deliver a five-minute opening statement and then answer questions from Harid, Senate Co-President Aaron Spolin '08, the audience and other candidates. The debate will end with closing statements from each candidate.

The three candidates are competing for two seats on the Borough Council. Election Day is Nov. 1.
