Suspect charged in Frist assault

A resident of Princeton Borough was arrested Wednesday night and charged in connection with the attempted assault two weeks ago in Frist Campus Center, Borough Police said yesterday.

The man, Wilmar Estuardo Munoz-Rosales, is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center after a witness spotted him on Witherspoon Street. He was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of criminal attempt to commit sexual contact and one count of criminal restraint.

"We feel confident, based on our investigation and speaking to the witnesses, the victim and him, that [he] was the person in the bathroom," Borough Police Lt. Dennis McManimon said in an interview.

Munoz-Rosales, 20, lives less than a mile from campus at Lytle Street.

The two counts of criminal sexual contact and the attempt to commit sexual contact are fourth-degree offenses that carry a sentence of up to 18 months, and the criminal restraint count is a third-degree offense that carries a threeto five-year sentence.

During the Oct. 2 incident, a female student was groped in a bathroom stall in Frist Campus Center, but escaped after screaming and drawing the attention of nearby students.

Borough Police were tipped off Wednesday by a witness who observed Munoz-Rosales on Witherspoon Street.

Officers were dispatched and the suspect was questioned. "He agreed to come [back to the department office] for questioning," McManimon said.

Borough Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office declined to say whether Munoz-Rosalez had confessed.

He's currently being held on $25,000 bail, and his bail hearing will be held early next week, Assistant Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said.

"At the bail hearing, we lay out what the case is against him. [The case] could be presented to a grand jury in as quick as about four to six weeks," Onofri said.
