Seniors Bush, Callaghan, Frist co-chair Class Day

This year's Class Day co-chairs are seniors Lauren Bush, Shaun Callaghan and Harrison Frist.

Class Day, held the day before Commencement, is a student-organized event featuring remarks by a keynote speaker. The event also includes speeches by students and faculty, the presentation of the class gift, the dedication of the yearbook and prizes to honor seniors who have made outstanding contributions during their years at Princeton.

"[The co-chairs] are responsible for coordinating all aspects of the event, from ordering box lunches to selecting student and non-student Class Day speakers," Associate Dean of Undergraduate Students Thomas Dunne said in an email.

Dunne added that the chairs were selected by senior class officers and have been planning the event since this past summer.

Speakers in the past five years have included comedians Chevy Chase, Bill Cosby, Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart, and former state and treasury secretary James A. Baker III '52. Several, including Chase, were arranged to speak through a family connection to Princeton.

Two of this year's co-chairs are related to major politicians: Harrison Frist is the son of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist '74, and Lauren Bush is the niece of President Bush. Callaghan is the former vice president and executive secretary of the USG.

So far, seniors have expressed varying levels of interest in Class Day. Rosanna Da Costa '06 said Class Day is "not even on my radar yet." Meanwhile, a group of 55 people already exists on theFacebook.com to promote getting comedian Vince Vaughn as the keynote speaker.

Class Day will be held on June 5, 2006.
