Experienced construction supervisor appointed University housing director

The University has appointed Andrew Kane as its new housing director. Kane, who started his job this week, comes to Princeton after serving in the same capacity at Cornell's Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences in New York City for six years.

He joins the University after former Director of Housing Tom Miller's retirement in July. Kane will be in charge of "all aspects of housing for the University," including "units" for 4,700 undergraduates and 700 graduate students as well as 600 faculty and staff members, according to a University statement.

Kane declined to comment for this article.

Prior to his tenure as director of housing for Cornell, he was assistant director from 1993 to 1999. Notable projects under Kane's leadership included "a lot of capital construction" and a new "luxury high-rise of 16 floors," said acting director of housing at Cornell Michael Sachs, who worked with Kane for almost 12 years.

Additionally, Kane undertook an "unheard-of" renovation of "student apartment-style housing" in which residents were not relocated, but instead "reshuffled" by groups of floors every three months, Sachs said. Sachs called Kane "a great supervisor" because he provides both direction and the freedom to pursue "new projects and challenges."

Kane graduated from the College of William and Mary and earned an MBA from Baruch College of the City of New York. He also obtained a graduate certificate in real estate from New York University.
