With the end of classes, the last thing students want to immediately think about is the stress of reading period and upcoming exams. There's a logical solution: throw a party. Heck, throw the biggest party of the year: the nonstop, three-day extravaganza known as House parties. The following is a list of this weekend's best events.
Ivy Club
The band Giants of Science will be performing for the members-only event Friday. On Saturday, there will be a DJ spinning beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday at the Ivy Club, the Sublime cover band 40 Ounces will perform from 1 to 3 p.m.
Quadrangle
Friday night will feature a "Knights of Camelot" theme and a cover band. Saturday's "1,001 Arabian Nights" semiformal will close with a DJ party. The Quadrangle Club will be hosting Phantom Planet and the Gin Blossoms starting at around 1 p.m. on Sunday. You will need a PUID to enter the event, and you will be allowed only one guest.
Cottage
DJ Bob will make an appearance on Friday and Saturday nights at Cottage. On Sunday, the Cottage Club will be hosting the always-popular Virginia Coalition, a blue-grassy rock foursome that has appeared many times at Cottage Lawn Parties.
Colonial
After Colonial's member/guest dinner Friday night, they will host a "Best of the '90s" dance party open to those with a PUID. After Saturday's semi-formal, DJ Bob will be spinning for those with a PUID. And Sunday at 2:30 p.m., hard-rocking Andrew WK will perform on the front lawn.
Charter
Charter will have a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, but there will be no Lawn Party event on Sunday.
Cloister
Cloister will start with a steel drum band during brunch on Sunday, and then a Phish cover band takes the lawn between 2 and 3 p.m.
Tiger Inn
Tiger Inn's Sunday afternoon will feature Zoso, the Led Zeppelin cover band that has become a recognized Lawn Parties favorite.
Campus
During Friday night's formal members will be dancing to a four-part band, Popshop, whose music has been described as a mixture of rock, pop, retro and dance. Saturday's semi-formal will include a soundtracks DJ starting at 10:30 p.m. And for Lawn Parties, Campus is hosting a rising star, Syd, whose acoustic pop/rock style might remind you of Live or Jason Mraz.
Terrace
Friday night at the Terrace Club will include a showcase of on-campus talent. The club will be jamming to acoustic and electric jazz sets, featuring Ben Wasserman '07 on saxophone, Julia Brav '08 on piano, Dan Ryan '05 on bass and Jon Marks '05 on drums. Outside, Jason Brooks and Co. will be spinning until the end of the night. Saturday, the club will host Slavic Soul Party! — yes, the exclamation point is part of their name. And finally, Sunday's events will feature RJD2, a performer whose music might be described as a fantastic fusion of hipster techno and innovation.
Tower
On Friday, Tower features Shortbus at 10 p.m. From 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Tower will hold its annual carnival-themed party, and at 10 p.m. DJ Bob mixes it up inside. On Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., Stroke 9 and Honestly will be onstage.
