Next Friday the Wilson School will launch its latest endeavor to promote the University as a leader in the study of international relations with the first conference of the Center for Globalization and Governance (CGG).
"The Political Economy of Globalization: How Firms, Workers and Policymakers Are Responding to Global Economic Integration" will be held on Friday and Saturday of next week.
Professor Helen Milner, a Wilson School professor of foreign and international affairs, will lead the CGG.
"[The Center has been created] to help the Woodrow Wilson School develop and to get a good handle on globalization and the issues that surround it," Milner said.
The CGG will pursue an interdisciplinary approach to the study of globalization in an effort to encourage innovative thinking.
"The Center will enhance our understanding of the interlocking global forces that are shaping our world," President Tilghman said in a press release.
The Center hopes to foster stronger relationships with other organizations studying the effects of globalization, both in the United States and internationally.
In addition, Milner said, the CGG is valuable for the top scholars it will attract to the University as fellows of the Center. "We're going to bring fellows from outside the University, young scholars working on these issues of globalization. We want the best and the brightest working on these issues to come to Princeton and enliven our community," Milner said.
The CGG will be structured around several core groups of University scholars, Milner added. At the inner core of the Center will be Wilson School professors, then Center Associates and finally Student Associates.
The number of visiting fellows yearly is expected to be anywhere from seven to ten, she said.
The CGG, which falls under the umbrella of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, will bring more courses and discussion of globalization to the Wilson School, Milner said.
"We want to turn Princeton into a national center for globalization research," she said.
