Lawrence, Hull win '08 class runoff elections

After a few nervous days in limbo, newly-elected Class of 2008 vice president Katie Lawrence and social chair Leland Hull learned Friday of their runoff victories. Both freshmen had campaigned against multiple other candidates in their respective races before advancing to two-person runoffs.

Lawrence, the current freshman class vice president, said she is "excited by the opportunity" to spend another year serving her class.

She thinks a second year in class government will give her, as well as the three other reelected officers, the chance to transition seamlessly into sophomore year. "It's great that almost all of the current officers will be returning next year," she said. "We already have the relationships with a lot of the important deans and other administrators that will make our work easier next year."

The one new class officer is Hull. "I did student government during all of high school, but wasn't sure I wanted to do it in college," she said. "During first semester I just wanted to get adapted to life here and wasn't sure if I wanted to be involved in student government here."

But after one term out of government, Hull seized the opportunity to run for class office. She considered running for other class offices and for USG positions, but her experiences organizing class-wide taco-eating contests, sponge dodgeball fights and annual spring obstacle course competitions led her to compete for the position of social chair.

Though she was happy just to reach the runoff round of her first Princeton election, Hull said winning means she will be able to "put on quirky events that everyone [will] enjoy."
