Crime ring busted on Nassau St.

Princeton Borough Police arrested three Philadelphia residents suspected of credit card theft on campus and outside Starbucks on Nassau Street on Jan. 28. Other suspects have not yet been arrested.

According to Lt. Dennis McManimon, the suspects — Mark Casen, 35, Rafael Hall, 32, and Stephanie Jo Labowitz, 23 — are only three of at least five or six people allegedly responsible for more than 30 thefts in the area over the last year.

"They get the [credit] card without the person knowing it, and then they have a hour or two to use it," McManimon said. He explained that the suspects then used the cards to buy electronics, gift certificates, and other goods from the malls on Route 1.

These goods were then sold on the street in Philadelphia.

Police staked out the Starbucks and Panera Bread Company on Nassau Street after marking a pattern in the thefts. After an hour and a half, Detective Kevin Creegan noticed Casen pickpocket a customer.

The three suspects were then confronted outside the store and taken to the Mercer County Detention Center.

"This will definitely go to trial," McManimon said, though the suspects "will have an opportunity to plea out of it.
