Cap, Tower top choices for Bicker

Following a record number of first-round sign-ins, Bicker brought even more new members to the Street this weekend.

Cap and Gown Club had the biggest Bicker class this year, with roughly 180 students bickering. Members said that roughly 80 sophomores were accepted to join the club, though officers could not be reached for comment.

Tower Club also saw a large Bicker class. A total of 164 prospective members flocked to the club for Bicker and about half of them were initiated into the club Saturday night, club president Scott Grzenczyk '06 said. Last year, 150 students bickered Tower and 90 were invited to join the club.

"Our Bicker group this year was exceptionally strong, both in terms of quantity and quality," Grzenczyk said. "As a result of that, and of increased ability to support a large number of people, the current Tower membership is the largest it has ever been."

Ivy Club Bicker chair Patricia Gadsden '05 said 124 students sought membership, and the club welcomed about 60 new members this weekend. Last year, 68 of 142 students who bickered Ivy were offered membership. The club has sufficient facilities for a total of 135 members, according to Ivy's website.

Members and officers from Cottage Club and Tiger Inn declined to release Bicker statistics. Last year, TI accepted 84 of 110 bickerees and Cottage did not release numbers.

For sign-in clubs, it was an especially strong year, with 450 first-round sign-ins. Terrace president Becky Gidel '06 said that in addition to filling the club's sophomore class with 93 members during first-round sign-ins, Terrace has put 38 students on a waitlist.

The waitlist is capped at 40 members, she said, "but if people really want to be in Terrace, they should be able to end up finding their way into the club."

During first-round sign-ins, two students who chose Terrace as their first choice and Terrace's waitlist as their second choice were instead placed in their third choice club, she said. The mistake was discovered before pickups last week, so the two involved students were still able to join Terrace after "working out some confusion."

Colonial Club had 117 new members sign in and has a sizeable number of people on its waitlist, said president Katie Daviau '06, who is also director of sales and advertising for The Daily Princetonian.

"It's exciting to see such a big sophomore class," she said.

Though officers at Cloister and Charter clubs declined to release exact numbers, members said their clubs both had between 60 and 70 new members sign in.

Officers from both clubs said they still have room for new members to join.

After a weaker-than-expected sign-in class, Quadrangle president Jamal Motlagh '06 opted not to release sign-in statistics, saying only that the club still had room for more sophomores.

Members reported that about 50 sophomores had signed in during the first round, and roughly another 35 signed in during the second round.

Campus Club's sign-in numbers were also reportedly low, but officers and members declined to release specifics.
