Freshmen to order class sweatshirts online

Class sweatshirts are a must-have for any University student on campus. Students show class pride by donning sweatshirts emblazoned with '05, '06 and '07 across the back. Soon, the Class of 2008 will join the group. For the first time, freshmen will also be able to order these sweatshirts online.

Once elected to office, freshman class president Grant Gittlin began to organize the production of class sweatshirts. After receiving several possible designs, Gittlin, working with several other students, chose the classic gray sweatshirt style.

Although maintaining the traditional style, he said he chose a better quality sweatshirt than those used in past years. Gittlin said the price will not be known until the end of the week. He added that he has also planned class skull caps and headbands.

Many freshmen are eagerly anticipating their class sweatshirts.

"I feel left out. I see '05, '06 and '07 everywhere, but no '08," Brandon Bierlein '08 said. "As long as it's a Princeton sweatshirt with '08, I don't care if it's pink and green, so long as it's not mostly pink."

This year marks the first that class sweatshirts will be ordered through princetonclassgear.com — a student agency founded to facilitate the sale of class paraphernalia from sports mugs to lacrosse shorts. This semester, all classes are on board with the company for the first time.

And several classes have expanded their lines. The Class of 2007 plans to have polo shirts available soon, while the Class of 2005 is working on rugby shirts.

"Basically, a lot of classes have a lot of gear coming out in the next few weeks," said Chris Lloyd '06, CEO of princetonclassgear.com and junior class president.

Gittlin said the website will have two key advantages. There will be no loss of revenue on leftover inventory because the website can allow sweatshirts to be produced as the online orders come in. Princetonclassgear.com has an option for orders to be delivered directly to the doors of on-campus rooms within a week of purchase.

"Our goal is to see everyone supporting the class," Gittlin said. "We just want to build class unity and let members of the Class of 2008 have something to show class pride with."

However, Gittlin said he did not want class unity to stop at sweatshirts. He said he will continue to work on study breaks and other opportunities to allow freshman to get to know each other.
