Athlete of the Week -- John Stover

Anything but a first-place finish at this past weekend's Southern Championships would have been a disappointment for the men's water polo team. Junior driver John Stover ensured that the team would leave the confines of Denunzio Pool as the victors.

In the semifinals against Bucknell, Stover made his presence felt as he tallied three goals in Princeton's 8-4 win. Princeton held a 4-2 win at the half and held on for the win.

The Tigers then met rival Navy in the finals, a team that Princeton had beaten 7-4 only a week earlier.

Stover added another goal in the finals, which Princeton win in dramatic fashion, 10-9. The Tigers found themselves down throughout the match but were able to claw back.

The Midshipmen led 4-3 after the first quarter and were up 7-5 at the half. The Tigers came out inspired to start the second half as Stover scored the only goal of the third quarter to pull Princeton to within 7-6.

For his efforts, Stover has been named The Daily Princetonian's Athlete of the Week.
