Students would save if not for agency monopoly

Regarding 'MicroFridges garner positive response' (Sept. 23):

A new MicroFridge costs $374 from the manufacturer, while used ones go for about $200 on Ebay. Buy it once, save over rental cost. Or is that forbidden under the student agency monopoly policy? Jonathan Baker '87

Dean: Forbes is the best place for disabled students

Regarding 'Paralyzed, moving on' (Sept. 22):

I am writing to clarify why Forbes College is the best place for students with severe mobility impairments.

While Witherspoon is a wonderfully renovated building with increased accessibility, it lacks single rooms with private bathrooms that are accessible, which allow students significantly more privacy in their personal care.

In addition, Witherspoon is part of Rockefeller College. The dining hall there is only accessible through a loading dock and then entering through the servery — not very convenient, to say the least. The required meal plan in the residential colleges underscores the value attached to eating together as a community-building feature. Forbes as a whole is accessible, allowing wheelchair users free and independent access to their dining area as well as to the college offices — the college offices in Rockefeller are likewise inaccessible.

Eventually, after all the renovations to the colleges are complete, the plan is to make the dining halls and other common spaces in other colleges more accessible but for now, Forbes College is the best option. Maria Flores-Mills Assistant dean of undergraduate students
