A year off from football must have angried up the blood of senior linebacker Zak Keasey of the foootball team. Keasey followed up a 12-tackle performance against Lafayette on Sept. 20 with a 14-tackle masterpiece last weekend against San Diego.
Along with his tackles, Keasey also recovered a fumble by diving to smother the ball just before it trickled out of bounds and made the game-sealing interception in the closing minutes, good enough to earn him Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Keasey was an All-Ivy first-team selection at linebacker in both 2001 and 2002 and is off to a fast start towards achieving the honor again this season.
Princeton's defense may have to carry most of the load this season, as an already thin offense continues to battle injuries. More performances like Keasey's effort Saturday will go a long way towards creating a winning formula for the Tigers.
For his game-saving work against San Diego, the Daily Princetonian names Zak Keasey this week's Athlete of the Week.
