'Prince' article insensitive to Christian readers

Regarding 'The art of pregaming before Houseparties' (Street, April 29):

I found this article both disappointing and offensive. Not only was his extended use of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as a parallel for "pregaming" offensive, but it displayed a stark lack of consideration for the Christian community. The death of Christ for the forgiveness of sin is the most deeply cherished belief for Christians, the gravity of which we solemnly stand in awe and reverence.

Would a similar use of such a sensitive element of another religion be tolerated? What if the Holocaust were used as a clever parallel for something like sexual promiscuity at the Street?

And why limit it to religious minorities when we could disrespect racial minorities too? Why not use American slavery to make a good joke about the art of hooking up at the Street? What about a joke about the murder of Matthew Shepard, a college student targeted for being homosexual?

I would expect the respective Jewish, African-American, and gay communities to be deeply offended.

I am disappointed that greater consideration for the Christian community was not exercised by the writer and the editors of The Daily Princetonian.

Members of religious communities should not have to worry about opening up the 'Prince' to find their most deeply cherished beliefs disrespected for the sake of a joke. Tony Ford '05
