Objections to gay marriage unfounded
Regarding "Reasonable reservations about gay marriage" (March 8):
While David Robinson writes that arguments agaist gay marriage are not bigoted, he fails to recognize the discriminatory nature of his own arguments. His assertion that two people of the same sex can never be as good parents as two people of opposite sexes is inherently bigoted since it discriminates based on sex. This argument is also completely unsubstantiated by facts. No study has found any significant difference between the behavior of children raised by same-sex couples versus opposite-sex couples.
Yes, children raised by same-sex couples do face special challenges. But so do biracial and interfaith children. Should we return to a time when people of different races were not allowed to marry? Most people today would say no, since denying people of the right to marry based on race would undoubtedly be bigoted. Why is denying taxpaying citizens of the right to marry based on sex any different? Jessie Weber '05, Co-President of the Pride Alliance
Good guidance key to studying abroad
Regarding "Bon Voyage" (March 4):
I was delighted to see your editorial on the importance of study abroad.
The University has dramatically shifted its position on study abroad, and we are now doing much better in encouraging students to spend at least a term abroad.
But you make many good points, and I agree that we can make improvements. I have one caveat. I do not think that Princeton necessarily needs to have its own foreign programs, though in special situations we may well want to do that.
There are in fact many high quality, independently operated study abroad programs around the world. What is needed is good guidance in choosing a program.
Dean Nancy Kanach and her office are extremely well informed on these issues of quality, and should be able to point any Princeton student to appropriate placements abroad. Stan Katz Lecturer with the rank of professor, Wilson School
Dems should be proud of Kerry the candidate
Regarding "Campus Dems lukewarm as Kerry secures lead" (March 3):
As a campus Democrat, I think that Sen. John Kerry will make a fine candidate. My impression has been that many other Princeton Democrats strongly agree with me.

Kerry is a proven leader who has demonstrated the ability to approach complex issues of domestic and foreign policy with subtlety and decisiveness. I am looking forward to joining other Princeton Democrats in actively supporting his candidacy. Chris Huckfeldt '06
