Behind the box

The opinions in this box do not appear magically. For the last week, the editorial page editor has been responsible for wielding the pen on behalf of the The Daily Princetonian. Starting with tomorrow's page, this will no longer be the case. Our opinions will be the product of a board of 12 coordinated by the editorial page editor.

This new editorial board, like the 'Prince's staff, comprises freshmen, sophomores and juniors with various interests. What we share is a passion for finding solutions to create a better University.

The board has three freshmen: Robert Braun, Anna Huang and Sanhita Sen. Though they haven't spent as much time here as most of you, they offer important insight. Princeton is a place that can be bewildering to newcomers, and they will keep us sensitive to that.

There are six sophomores: Chris Berger, Michael Brier, Michael Broache, Jeremy Golubcow-Teglasi, Eric Herschthal and Caroline McCarthy. Joining them are the board's three juniors: Kyle Jaros, Amy Saltzman and Editorial Page Editor Jonathan Williams. These more experienced — and maybe more jaded — members have been around long enough to have a sense of the Princeton community and opinions about where it should go.

This group is responsible only to Editor-in-Chief Zachary Goldfarb. Possibly to their chagrin, other sections' editors and their writers will have no say in what we say in this space. They will do the reporting, and we will do the opinion-making.

Writing editorials is an inherently egotistical activity. After all, who are we to tell you what to think? Our audience is one of the best educated in the world, and we'd be foolish to say that we're any smarter or have any special sense about what the right thing to do is.

So, who are we to tell you what to think? No one special. But our opinions will be backed by a thorough knowledge of the University and the issues it faces.

If we succeed, you'll agree with us most of the time and understand how we got to our decision all the time.
