Fountains of Wayne to play at McCarter

The band Fountains of Wayne, best known for its hit single "Stacy's Mom," is coming to McCarter Theatre on Feb. 20, and the USG is working to make the show more accessible to students.

USG social chair Christoph Geiseler '04 said he was enthusiastic when McCarter representatives approached him about offering subsidized student tickets before releasing tickets to the general public.

"The band is quite popular right now and, some may argue, quite good," he said.

When tickets went on sale early Monday morning, 350 were initially available. And when those sold out, 150 more were released. Ticket sales ended Wednesday.

McCarter's Special Programming Director Bill Lockwood '59, who booked the group at McCarter, said, "I thought it would be nice if Princeton students had the opportunity to get the best tickets."

He estimated about half the audience will be Princeton students.

Lockwood said this is the first cooperation between the USG and McCarter in recent years.

"Hopefully we can do this more often," he said. "I'm delighted it worked out so well."

Geiseler said he saw "the beginnings of a longstanding relationship" resulting from this dual effort.

Lockwood said Fountains of Wayne was an appropriate choice for the combined concert because of group's appeal among students.

"The group is very, very hot right now," he said.

Fountains of Wayne is nominated for two Grammies: Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Group for its hit single "Stacy's Mom."

Lockwood added this event is just one of 10 to 20 concerts McCarter hosts annually.

"We do concerts all year long," he said. "Students are not always aware of all that is happening at McCarter."

Among the events planned for this spring are Bruce Cockburn (February 5), Noche Flamenca (February 24), The Chieftains (March 9), Keb' Mo' (March 29) and Reduced Shakespeare (April 21).
