Does Pete Rose deserve to be in the baseball Hall of Fame?

I think this Pete Rose scandal is sickening, and let me tell you why. The guy bet on baseball and then he lied about it — for 14 freaking years. I don't think that Bud Selig, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, should reinstate Rose, and if he does I hope in hell that the writers do not vote him into the Hall of Fame. If they do, they are all a bunch of pansies.

I saw Rose on Jay Leno last night. I've seen him on PrimeTime, on Inside the Lines, on 20/20, on Dateline and a slew of other news shows. I saw him on Entertainment Tonight, on Celebrities Uncensored and even on this crappy news tabloid show on Univision called "Quien es Caliente." And each time he had the same look on his face, like a 10 year old boy who has just seen his secret crush holding hands with another guy and is about to cry.

Yeah, he's sorry. I believe him. He is just as sorry as I am that I ate my roomate's last slice of pizza sitting in the refrigerator.

And even if he is sorry, big freaking deal. He bet on baseball. Clearly, we're not talking about spitting on the pope here or shooting the president or anything like that, but for some people baseball is just as big as religion. Hell, for some people baseball is religion.

It certainly was for Pete Rose. If I hear that guy, or anyone associated with him, say once more that he ate, breathed, and slept baseball, I'm going to cut my own wrists. So Pete, if you loved the game so much, how come you had to go behind its back like that? Huh?

I don't think cheaters should get another chance. They're bound to do it again. And even if they clean up their act, they're still dirty in my mind.
