Jeff Bezos '86, CEO of Amazon.com, has pledged $8 million to Whitman College, making the top two donors to the planned college both dot-com executives.
"I couldn't be happier to give back to Princeton," Bezos said in an interview yesterday.
University administrators were equally happy to have secured additional funding for the $110 million project.
Bezos and eBay CEO Meg Whitman '77, for whom the college is named, share more than being the college's sponsors. They were also the two contenders for Time Magazine's person of the year in 2000.
Bezos, who won the title, said he and Whitman have been spending time together ever since.
The former computer science and electrical engineering major hit it off with the slightly older economics major, Whitman.
"When she called me up a few months ago," Bezos recalled, "and asked me about helping out the college, I got excited."
He said the two met for brunch several times to discuss their aspirations for the four-year college.
"What I liked most about my dorm room freshman year were the e— bay windows," Bezos laughed.
He said the two will be presenting other suggestions to the University.
"Students are always going in and out of entryways, wouldn't it be great to have one-click access to your rooms?" he said.
But not all of the suggestions were in jest.

"I do support Meg in the idea of having many singles. I'm sure juniors and seniors in the college will appreciate it," Bezos said . . . This is the Daily Princetonian's annual joke issue. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
