Borough charges president of Cap

Princeton Borough Police charged the president of the Cap and Gown Club with two alcohol-related charges stemming from an Oct. 19 incident. Charges against other clubs may be pending, according to the department.

Elizabeth Biney-Amissah '04 was charged with maintaining a nuisance and serving alcohol to a minor. The charges were served on Nov. 20 and Biney-Amissah was scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing yesterday, said police Lt. Dennis McManimon.

Biney-Amissah was charged because a "student under the age of 21 had to be transported to [the] hospital due to alcohol intoxication" from Cap, McManimon said. The victim was a female student, he said.

Biney-Amissah declined to comment.

McManimon described the incident as "the final straw" in a series of alcohol problems on Prospect Avenue. He also said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be brought against other clubs.

"I get the feeling that at least another club will get charged, if not two," he said.

McManimon said the charges are not related to the undercover operation that the Borough Police conducted last year that resulted in charges against officers of Colonial and Quadrangle clubs.

Next Tuesday, the Borough Council will address the proposed alcohol ordinance, discussion of which was suspended last April. The ordinance would allow police to cite minors who are in possession of alcohol on private property.
