Intelligent conservative argument is important

Regarding 'Conservatives favor dignity in campus sexuality debate' (Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003):

Although I disagree with his arguments, I would like to thank Mr. Fragoso for having the courage to share his views on homosexuality in an intelligently written opinion piece. I would much prefer people expressing their arguments against homosexuality in this manner than through having beer thrown at me or having Pride Alliance posters defaced or torn down.

I do not accept the idea, however, that by engaging in homosexual acts, I become no more than a sex toy. Would Mr. Fragoso accuse heterosexual people who engage in sexual acts without the intention of procreation of using their bodies as sex toys? Is Mr. Fragoso also against the use of condoms for safer sex? Why in a world so filled with hatred and violence are we wasting our energy condemning acts of love that cause no harm to anyone?

Perhaps you believe that homosexuality is immoral? Most child molesters are heterosexuals. Homosexuality is not natural? Actually, it does appear in other groups of animals in nature. Same-sex couples are incapable of creating stable, loving homes and families? I would advise you to look at the climbing divorce rate among straight couples. Does this mean that we should ban heterosexual marriage? Or maybe we should make it clear to heterosexuals that it's okay for them to be born with an attraction to the opposite sex, so long as they do not act on it. Clearly this would be an infringement on heterosexuals' right to the pursuit of happiness that our country guarantees. I am not calling Mr. Fragoso a bigot, but I think it might be very enlightening for him, as well as other opponents of "homosexual behavior," to see if his reasoning holds up when examining "heterosexual behavior."
