Campusfood.com provides alternative delivery service

For a student living on three-dollar slices of pizza and mundane meal plans, the promise of free catered food might seem like a little piece of heaven on campus. With campusfood.com — a new food delivery agency available to all University students via the Internet — students can get just that during a two-week trial period.

From now until Oct. 13, students can order one Sesame Chicken from Sultan Wok or any hot panini sandwich from Moondoggie Cafe completely free of charge.

Regular meals are also available from takeout favorites Tiger Noodles, Hot Wok Café, Ivy Garden, Pizza Colore, Cibo Restaurant and Café, Domino's, and Masala Grill.

Campusfood.com could spell trouble for TigerFood, the only existing on-campus food delivery agency. Though the agency offers discounts at some restaraunts and a wide selection, it charges an additional $1.50 for delivery of each order. Campusfood.com has no delivery fee.

Students must register with campusfood.com before completing their first order. Once registered, students will be eligible for special discounts and other perks available solely to members.

Campusfood.com got its start in 1997 when its founders realized the need for convenient food delivery on college campuses, according to its website. The business has thrived at such Philadelphia schools as the University of Pennsylvania and St. Joseph's University.

Princeton's moderate size and variety of nearby restaurants made it a good candidate for this new convenience. Campusfood.com seeks colleges with eager student bodies and cooperative restaurants for its promotions.

Campusfood marketing coordinator Ismael Archbold claimed that the service has some advantages over its local competitors.

"We don't just deliver food," he said. "We actually place menus online. We provide no-hassle ordering, and work with restaurants to offer discounts."

Students say they are delighted by the promotion.

Some students, however, complained about the limited selection.

"What's up with only being able to order for one person at a time?" Ben Easter '07 said.

Many students have not yet taken advantage of the free delivery, but plan to soon.

Helen Rogers '07 captured the sentiments of many when she questioned, "Who can argue with free food?"
