Andre Logan '04 — forward on the men's basketball team — was charged with burglary and criminal mischief by Borough Police at roughly 1 a.m. Friday morning.
While in Tower Club, Logan allegedly went into the bedroom of club president Cullen Newton '04, where Logan broke a window, Lt. Dennis McManimon said.
"He was trying to, believe it or not, get to a Red Sox flag," McManimon said. "So it had a little something to do with the game."
The flag was a towel hanging from the window, supporting the Boston Red Sox, who lost to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series Thursday night.
Logan severely cut his hand breaking the window and was transported to the University Medical Center of Princeton, McManimon said.
He was allegedly drinking at the time of the events, McManimon told the Times of Trenton.
Logan declined to comment.
John Thompson, basketball coach, could not be reached.
Newton said he was not in his room when his window was broken. He said he returned at 1:30 a.m. to find the broken window and a trail of blood leading out of the room.
"[Logan] has apologized to me in person. He has shown that he's sorry," Newton said. "Tower feels that it's not necessary to press charges."
Newton said Logan offered to pay for the damages he caused.
Though Logan has missed most of the last two basketball seasons because of knee injuries, he is considered one of the strongest players on the team. Despite his limited playing time, Logan has been second on the team in scoring the last two seasons. The team began practice on Saturday.
Also, at 1:18 a.m. Friday morning, Borough Police issued a noise violation to Cottage Club, McManimon said.
A live band was playing at the time, and several noise complaints were filed, McManimon said.
The noise violation will most likely go to court, and the fine is typically $100, McManimon said.
