Clubs conclude fall Bicker, welcome new members

Cap and Gown, Ivy and Tower clubs accepted new members this weekend after closing out a fall Bicker week that saw the return of Tower's fall Bicker process.

Ivy accepted 15 of 40 Bickerees, and Tower accepted 23 of 31 Bickerees, club officials said. Cap accepted 20 out of 33 Bickerees.

Fall Bicker operates on a much smaller scale than the more publicized spring Bicker.

Juniors and seniors — who either didn't receive their desired bid or who didn't bicker in the spring — are offered another chance to join a selective eating club.

Tower reinstituted fall Bicker after it experimented with a petition process last fall.

The club's spring Bicker was more selective, with 161 students bickering and only 86 accepted. Tower president Cullen Newton '04 said in an email that this year's Bicker was "extremely successful."

He said that the club is "excited about the new additions" to its membership.

Ivy's numbers were similar during last fall's Bicker period, when the club accepted 17 out of 41 applicants.

In the spring, Ivy took 64 new members from a pool of 106 applicants.

"Overall, I think the Bicker process went very smoothly," said Ivy president Peter Sculco '04.

He added, "We accepted some great new members who will add a lot to the club."

During Cap's 2002 fall Bicker, 10 out of 37 students were accepted.

In the spring, Cap refused to release exact numbers but said that "roughly half" of the students bickering had been offered bids.
