Correction

One unique feature of being a college newspaper editor is that it sometimes gives you the chance to wake up in the morning and be amazed at the mistakes you made the night before — even in the middle of the week. We had this privilege yesterday, reading over Wednesday's editorial pages. We attributed the column "Tilghman should clarify her vision for Princeton" to Nicholas Guyatt. The column was a model of editorial clarity and grace, but there was one small problem — Guyatt didn't write it. It was actually by Lowell Schiller. On the facing page, in our description of a point/counterpoint debate between Meredith Safran and Professor John Fleming, we misspelled Fleming's name.

You might be wondering how we managed to mangle things so badly. We are wondering this ourselves. Editing can be an intense and time-pressured business — between the two of us, we spent more than ten hours Tuesday preparing Wednesday's pages — but that's no excuse for our mistakes. We take full responsibility, and apologize. To Lowell, Nicholas and Professor Fleming: Thank you for tolerating our foibles and for doing so much to create a good discussion on campus. To our readers: Thank you for reading, and for understanding. We can't promise to eliminate mistakes, but we'll do our best; whenever we fail, feel free to write a letter.
