Athlete of the Week

Sophomore attack Leigh Slonaker of the women's lacrosse team kept the Tigers in the running for a share of the Ivy League title last Saturday.

With 36 seconds left in regulation and the Big Green salivating for a victory that would automatically give them sole position of the Ivy crown, Slonaker streaked toward the goal and caught the eye of her teammate, sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Pillion, who quickly whipped her the ball. Slonaker swung around as the seconds ticked away and fired the shot that would swallow Dartmouth's hopes and hand her team the victory.

The game-winner was her second goal of the afternoon and a perfect reflection of the stellar performances Slonaker has been unloading all over the field in the past few weeks.

In the Tigers' preceding 13-8 victory against Penn on April 23, she notched no less than three goals. And in the game before that, when the team rolled over Harvard, 12-2, it was Slonaker who raided the Crimson goal and topped the charts with yet another hat trick.

With a total of eight goals and two assists in the past three matches, Slonaker has been the backbone of the Tigers' offense throughout this crucial three-game winning streak against their Ivy foes.

For her performances this week, the 'Prince' names her its Athlete of the Week.
