Eating club officer issued alcohol-related summons

The president of Colonial Club was issued a summons Monday for serving a minor and maintaining a nuisance, Borough Police Lt. John Reading said.

Police issued the summonses to Ben Handzo '04 after they conducted an investigation into the case of an intoxicated underage female transported from the club to Princeton Medical Center Saturday night, Reading said.

"He was charged based on the fact that he is the president, and that they were making available alcohol to a person who was underage," Reading said.

Both serving a minor and maintaining a nuisance are disorderly persons charges, Reading said. Maintaining a nuisance carries with it a possible $1,000 fine and year of jail for offenders with a previous record, he said.

Handzo had no comment.

He is the fifth club officer slapped with alcohol-related summonses since Feb. 4, when three officers of Colonial and one officer from Quadrangle Club were issued summonses for serving minors and creating a nuisance.

The president of Cap and Gown Club was issued summonses for the same offenses on Feb. 9, after an intoxicated underage female there required transport to Princeton Medical Center.
